[PODCAST] AI in Business: Empowering with Purpose

Explore how AI integration can transform your business strategy with insights on Generative Engine Optimisation, practical AI tools, and the importance of purposeful implementation.

The buzz around artificial intelligence (AI) has drowned out the critical conversation about purpose. While many businesses are enticed by the latest “shiny new thing”, Spitfire’s experts unpack how to sift out your why and work that into your what.  In this information-packed 60 minute podcast, Alison Leishman (Strategic Director) leads a discussion with Brandon Holz (Head of AI), Darren Leishman (CEO), Kgomotoso Dibetso (Social Media Specialist), Marlene Oosthuizen (Lead Solutions Architect) and Shiran Sugerman (Head of Inbound Success) about the next stage of AI integration.

Some key insights unpacked in the episode include the importance of developing your AI compass, the knowledge paradox and practical implementation examples.

Developing Your AI Compass

Every organisation needs an AI manifesto. This is a document aligning team members on values and principles guiding AI use - you can read our's here. Rather than restricting creativity, a thoughtful manifesto empowers people by establishing clear parameters that ensure AI serves strategic objectives.

The Knowledge Paradox

"If you know a little, AI knows a lot. If you know a lot, AI knows a little." This observation from Darren highlights that AI is still helpful on a broad, surface level rather than in depth. The human expert still beats the machine.

Human-AI Partnership

Using AI for efficiency isn't about avoiding work—it's about redirecting human effort where it adds most value. As Brandon says with a dry chuckle at the 31 minute mark, "AI won't replace you—but someone who knows how to use it might." This highlights that AI’s role should be to augment, not replace! Just as calculators transformed mathematics without eliminating mathematicians, AI shifts the nature of work.

Remember: Start by asking not what AI can do, but what specific problems you need to solve. Then select tools that address those challenges while complementing human strengths.

Purposeful implementation will always trumps technological novelty.

Highlights from the episode

  • 2 min: Why you need an AI manifesto. To help your people align on values and principles of AI use, and to guide the principles of AI use. Goal is to empower, not constrain use.
  • 5 min: What’s the risk of using AI without purpose? There is a risk of being irrelevant or copying information from other sources.
  • 6 min: By using AI with purpose, you can get the most from the experience and enable more eureka moments for your clients.
  • 10:59 min: Something to think about - “If you know a little, AI knows a lot. If you know a lot, AI knows a little.” Use this perspective when reviewing content from AI.
  • 13 min: One opportunity raised: use AI to review content as your persona to identify gaps and where to improve.
  • 17 min: Cut out the noise! Start by remembering your goals and problems you’re solving with AI. New does not equal better, and remember your purpose.
  • 20 min: Many AI tools are built on top of big programmes, which gives you a hundred versions of the same tool. Do your research before integrating a tool, and this will help you decide when to pay, vs when to customise, vs when to use an agent.
  • 22:10: “ROI AI-AI-OH” - when will we see the ROI in AI?
  • 26 min: Efficiency does not equal laziness. AI is best when used for repetitive admin, but it does not do EVERYTHING.
  • 31 min: “AI won’t replace you - but someone who knows how to use it might.”

  • 34 min: How to future proof yourself? “Just dive in.” Think: what tasks would I give an assistant that never slept and didn’t have feelings?

  • 37 min: Calculators didn’t take away mathematicians, but they did change how we do maths. Let's think about AI with this context.

  • 43:40 min: HubSpot’s AI functionality!

      • Breeze is HubSpot's AI tools, seamlessly integrated throughout the entire customer platform.
      • Breeze Copilot, embedded in HubSpot's CRM, your easy-to-use AI sidekick that's always there to help you with whatever you're working on, using CRM data for personalized support.
      • Breeze Agents automate specific functions in your business to help you drive growth and revenue..
      • Breeze Intelligence enriches CRM data with insights like buyer intent and data enrichment using credits.

  • 54 min: AI is not a bandaid.

  • 55 min: It’s important to close the feedback loop for AI (click the 👍or 👎 to give feedback on the quality of the AI response to your prompt).

  • 01:06: Instead of focusing on ROI, rather think about the cost of inaction while your competitors get ahead. Look at the ROE (return on effort).
